Coronvirus Live Updates: India Deaths Rise To 25; Cases Near 1,000; SpiceJet Pilot Tests Positive

More than 30,000 people have died worldwide in the coronavirus pandemic, two-thirds of them in Europe, according to an AFP tally on Saturday.

In total, 30,003 lives have been lost with 21,334 of those in Europe, where Italy has the highest number of fatalities with 10,023 deaths, followed by Spain with 5,690, the tally based on official information sources found.

India reported 179 fresh COVID-19 cases, highest in a single day, taking the tally to 918, and the death toll climbed to 19 on Saturday, as the government made efforts to shore up healthcare infrastructure, including procurement of ventilators,

12:24PM: SpiceJet Pilot Tests Positive | SpiceJet has that one of its pilots who did not fly any international flight in March has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“One of our colleagues, a first officer with SpiceJet, has tested positive for COVID-19. The test report came on March 28. He did not operate any international flight in March 2020,” a spokesperson of the airline said.

9:05 AM: China has reported 45 new coronavirus cases including one locally transmitted case while the death toll due to COVID-19 reached 3,300 with five new fatalities, health officials said Sunday. The new domestically transmitted case was reported in Henan province on Saturday, the country’s National Health Commission (NHC) said.

8:03 AM: Six new COVID-19 positive cases were detected on Saturday taking the total number of cases to 19 in the state. Samples of 74 people were tested in the state in which 68 tested negative while 6 tested positive.

7:51 AM : There are now more than 121,100 coronavirus cases in the United States and the death toll from COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center.

New York City alone has recorded 517 deaths from COVID-19. Over 100 fatalities have been reported elsewhere in New York state. King County (Washington) has 136 coronavirus deaths registered.

7:45 AM: Spain’s death toll from coronavirus-related complications reached 5,690 people on Saturday after the Health Ministry reported that another 832 patients had died over the past 24 hours.

7:40 AM: The number of coronavirus deaths in Italy has increased by 889 in the past 24 hours and the toll has reached 10,023, Angelo Borrelli, the head of Italy’s National Civil Protection Agency, said on Saturday.
