University closed, police confirm killing of professor

University authorities have immediately announced closure of university of Kashmir for Monday and Tuesday following conformation by police that Dr Rafi Bhat was among the five killed in Shopian encounter. As soon as the news reached Ganderbal and his native village, hundreds of people took to streets protesting against killing of university teacher. Protesters were saying that it was a cold blooded murder by men in uniform as the assistant professor who was working in sociology department went missing on Friday evening. They were saying during the protests that government forces were now killing even the scholars of Kashmir and contested the claim of army and DGP that they tried to persuade him to surrender.
Meanwhile latest reports from Ganderbal said that protests were going on in number of places and there are reports of clashes also. More details are awaited.
