There is a thrust of the Jammu and Kashmir government on Eco-Tourism and many steps have been taken in the recent past to work in this direction.

Recently the wildlife department for the first time started a trek from the Brain area of Nishat in the forests and the trekking was completed through the forests up to Khonmoh.

Wildlife department has said that they will not only utilize their huts and other assets for tourism but have started this trekking program of locals in the forests so that they understand the ecology and the importance of the forests in the long run.

Similarly J&K administration recently held a Mela in the Bangus Valley of Kupwara and this Mela was inaugurated by LG Manoj Sinha. He said that the government is continuously working to reach out to the last person in the queue with all developmental & welfare schemes.

He instructed officers to install Prefabricated toilets; ensuring drinking water facility to all 2,000 families living in the valley of Bangus. He said that it has a lot of tourism potential and the government should try to put it on the tourism map as soon as possible.

During his visit to Bangus Valley he directed Tourism and Forest departments to chart out viable “Eco-Tourism” plans for all prominent grasslands & meadows. This year’s Rs 767 crore district Capex budget of Kupwara, three times more than last year, has been fixed so that in this border district there is a developmental environment and the people can benefit from the government schemes.
