An army officer was wounded during a gunfight with militants in Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, even as clashes erupted between protesters and forces.
The gunfight erupted after forces cordoned off New Colony area of Kakapora town.
“During the search operation, contact was established (with militants) and an exchange of fire took place,” he said.
An army major was hit by a bullet during the firefight, said the official, adding that he was shifted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
DIG South Kashmir S P Pani said an army major was injured in the gunfight. He said the firing was going on.
Meanwhile, youth took to streets and pelted forces with stones to help militants escape the cordon.
