CJP’s Saurav Das alleges Puducherry Police questioned his family, claims ‘intimidation’ at Centre’s behest
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das has alleged that Puducherry Police visited his family’s home and questioned his relatives. Das described the visit as harassment and claimed that his family was being intimidated because of his political activities.
In a post on X, Das questioned the reason for the police visit and asked who had ordered it. He also questioned whether such questioning was part of a lawful procedure.
“Two hours ago, the Pondicherry Police showed up at my family’s home and subjected them to all kinds of questioning,” Das wrote. He asked the Puducherry Police why the visit had taken place and who had authorised it.
Das alleges political intimidation
Das further alleged that the BJP-backed government in Puducherry was trying to intimidate his family. He claimed the action was being carried out at the direction of the Union government.
He said the alleged pressure was aimed at forcing him to remain silent. Das, however, said the police action would not stop him from continuing his political activities.
He also criticised the manner in which the police were allegedly being used, saying that the incident would instead strengthen his determination to work for what he described as a better system.
Amit Shah visit also questioned
Das linked the alleged police visit to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent trip to Puducherry.
He pointed out that Shah had visited the Union Territory two days earlier and had met Puducherry’s Home Minister and Lieutenant Governor. Das questioned whether the alleged intimidation of his family had been discussed during those meetings.
He specifically asked whether the police action could have been planned during Shah’s visit.
Das repeated his demand for clarity over who ordered the questioning and what the purpose of the visit was.
Puducherry Police give security explanation
Puducherry Police, however, said the visit was part of routine security arrangements being carried out ahead of Independence Day.
According to the police, enquiries were being conducted at houses and hotels in areas frequented by VIPs. The purpose, officials said, was to check whether any new people had recently arrived in Puducherry or were staying in those locations.
The police maintained that such enquiries were routine and formed part of the security measures being put in place before Independence Day.
