Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s dedication of development works worth over Rs 11.58 crore in Kathua, along with a comprehensive review of progress in both Kathua and Samba districts, reflects a renewed emphasis on grassroots development and administrative accountability. The projects inaugurated and foundation stones laid span critical sectors rural enterprise, agriculture, education and infrastructure signalling a shift towards livelihood-centric and value-addition-driven growth.

Facilities such as the Bamboo Crafts and Agarbatti Common Facility Centres, along with the Kathua Kriti Showroom, underscore the government’s intent to promote local entrepreneurship, self-help groups and traditional skills. These initiatives, if supported by effective marketing and sustained handholding, can generate durable employment, especially for women and youth. Upgradation of poultry and hatchery units under HADP further strengthens the agri-economy, a backbone of rural livelihoods.

Equally important is the Chief Minister’s insistence on time-bound execution, quality control and visible outcomes. His focus on resolving bottlenecks in road projects, ensuring durability of infrastructure, and operationalising pending facilities like the pesticide testing laboratory reflects a results-oriented governance approach. The emphasis on employment generation through Mission YUVA and outcome-based job fairs is timely, given persistent youth unemployment.
