Fresh Dialogue

After months of stalemate, the dialogue between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and representatives of Ladakh finally resumed in New Delhi recently, reviving hopes for a peaceful resolution to the UT’s long-pending demands.

The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) reiterated their key issues, restoration of Statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, along with justice for victims of the September 24 violence.

The cordial tone of the meeting and the MHA’s assurance of an early High-Powered Committee (HPC) session suggest a renewed willingness to engage meaningfully with the united leadership of Ladakh.

The Centre’s decision to order a judicial inquiry under a former Supreme Court Judge is a welcome step toward accountability and transparency and will also address the concerns of common people in Ladakh.

While expectations should remain realistic, this meeting marks a crucial restart in building trust between Ladakh’s representatives and the Central government.

Constructive dialogue, empathy, and time-bound action are essential to address Ladakh’s political aspirations and restore calm in this sensitive hilly area.
