Vacant positions in judiciary
Judicial system in UT of Jammu and Kashmir is on the path of getting consolidation on the ground. But there is a problem of deficiency of judges and it is impacting the work and the speed in the courts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Recently Centre has informed the Lok Sabha that 60 judges’ positions are vacant in Jammu and Kashmir courts. This significant shortage of judges can impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial system, leading to delays in justice delivery and increased pendency of cases. Already the local activists have been highlighting the pendency of cases in different courts of Jammu and Kashmir. The backlog of the cases is taking its toll on the common people as they have to bear the costs of prolonged litigations.
After information shared with parliament by the Central Government, people of Jammu and Kashmir are expecting the process of recruitment of the judges would be speedy. The delay of recruitment of the judges will only impact those common people who want their cases to be heard within the time frame so that they get justice.
The issue of judicial vacancies in Jammu and Kashmir highlights the need for a more efficient and transparent appointment process. Ensuring that the judiciary is adequately staffed is essential for the effective administration of justice and the protection of citizens’ rights in UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
