The Jammu and Kashmir Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is introducing stricter regulations for dressed mutton and chicken supplies entering the region. The new rules focus on mandatory labelling and source disclosure to ensure transparency about the origin and quality of the meat.

The FDA has announced that all consignments must have proper labelling, including source disclosure, and suppliers must adhere to strict hygiene standards and provide processing details to prevent contamination and ensure food safety. This move follows the recent recovery of 1,200 kg of rotten mutton, which led to an FIR being registered against the individuals involved.

The regulations aim to protect public health by ensuring meat supplies meet food safety standards and reduce the risk of contamination. Additionally, the FDA seeks to respect religious sentiments by promoting labelling transparency and verifying halal standards.

The FDA will issue a public notice to raise awareness among consumers and vendors about labelling norms and food safety protocols. This move is part of the government’s efforts to enhance food safety and quality in Jammu and Kashmir.
