Kashmir Valley Sees Slight Rise in Temperatures Amid Winter Chill

SRINAGAR: The freezing weather continues to dominate large parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with several areas recording sub-zero temperatures. In Srinagar, the summer capital, the minimum temperature stood at 1.0°C, offering slight relief compared to previous days.

In the Kashmir Valley, Larnoo emerged as the coldest location, with a bone-chilling -6.0°C, while Sonamarg followed closely at -4.8°C. Other popular tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Shopian also witnessed significant drops, registering -3.2°C and -2.9°C, respectively.

Regions like Qazigund and Pulwama recorded lows of -1.6°C and -1.1°C, respectively, while Khudwani reported -2.7°C. Pahalgam and Kulgam recorded identical lows of -2.2°C, and Kupwara was relatively milder at 1.0°C.

The Jammu region experienced comparatively warmer conditions. Katra recorded a minimum temperature of 10.8°C, while Padder in the Chenab Valley stood out as the coldest at -6.2°C. Jammu city registered a low of 9.0°C, with Banihal and Bhaderwah witnessing 1.0°C and 2.0°C, respectively. Ramban recorded 8.2°C, and Reasi followed with 7.4°C.

In Ladakh, the cold wave continued unabated, with Drass and Kargil plunging to -9.8°C. Leh was slightly warmer at -9.0°C. These frigid temperatures underscore the region’s harsh winter conditions, posing challenges for residents and travellers alike.

The cold wave is expected to persist, with weather agencies predicting no significant relief in the coming days.
