Artisan in focus
Artisans and weavers are getting special attention from the government in Kashmir valley. They are being provided with financial assistance under various schemes so that they can live their lives with ease.
Recently the district Kupwara Handicrafts & Handloom department organized an Awareness camp at Lalpora Lolab.
In this awareness camp the Assistant Director also appealed to the artisans and trainees to come forward for taking benefit of the state and central sponsored welfare schemes for their better livelihood. He further added that the department also provides financial assistance of Rs.1 lakh for the formation of cooperative self-help groups and till date 160 cooperative groups have been registered in the district Kupwara, out of which 20 were formulated in Lolab area.
Other speakers and field functionaries also emphasized the role of the department in upliftment of the artisan and weaver community of the area.
The camp was attended by a large number of artisans, trainees, society holders besides various departmental officers of Handicrafts and Handloom, KVIB and Industries, besides other line departments, the statement added.
