Uri : Inhabitants of Batang in Lagama Uri are aghast at the alleged failure of Power Development Department vis-à-vis installation of an electricity transformer previously installed in the village got damaged last week.

A local delegation told that on the intervening night of November 23rd and November 24th, a 100KV electric transformer caught fire and got fully damaged in the incident.

The incident, they alleged, happened due to negligence of PDD, as according to them there aren’t any electric poles in Ward Number 4.

“We even are living under constant threat of electrocution as wires hang very low,” they said.

“We approached the PDD for the replacement of wooden poles, old electrical wires and demands for changing the location of the transformer but no action has been taken in this regard so far”, they said.

They said at least 35 families have been reeling under darkness for a week now.

“We humbly request DC Baramulla to look into this matter and do needful in this regard”, they urged.

When contacted, Executive Engineer PDD Baramulla Dalbir Singh told that they have already arranged a new transformer for the area. “It are the locals who are not allowing us to install the transformer back and they demand shifting of the transformer to the location of their choice,” he said adding the shifting of the transformer needs approval and funds from the government which takes some time.
