Parliament’s Winter session to commence from Dec 7

The Winter Session of Parliament is set to commence from December 7 and will go on till December 29 this year, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Friday. The upcoming Winter Session will have a total of 17 working days, he said.

The session will mark Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar debut as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, as he will officiate proceedings in the Upper House. The session will begin at a time when Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will still be gripped with election fever.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Pralhad Joshi wrote, “Winter Session 2022 of Parliament will commence from 7 December & continue till 29th December having 17 sittings spread over 23 days. Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to discussions on Legislative Business & other items during the session. Looking forward for constructive debate.”

Meanwhile, as for the working of he new session the government is planning to pass a number of bills during the forthcoming session of Parliament, the Opposition will demand a discussion on the on going matters.

On the first day of the session, the members are set to pay respects to sitting members who died.

According to sources, with the Covid numbers witnessing a massive decline and most members and staff of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariat being completely vaccinated, this session is likely to go ahead without any major pandemic-induced restrictions. Over the last two years, Covid has affected Parliament sessions.

The Monsoon Session had started on July 18 and adjourned on August 8. The session saw 16 sessions spread over a period of 22 days.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi might not be able to attend the Parliament Winter Session as he will be busy with Bharat Jodo Yatra, said Jairam Ramesh.
