The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken slew of measures for the tribal welfare and the focus is on the education and rural development in tribal areas.

Government has already allocated funds under different schemes for the tribal population so that they get a level playing field for the growth.

Recently the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir said that his administration has allocated funds under CSS, UT CapEx for tribal welfare proportionate to their population.

He said that the Tribal Sub-Plan is to be integrated with BEAMS. Government has also approved several key initiatives for tribal development and welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Secretary was chairing the meeting of the State Executive Committee for Tribal Plan and UT Level Coordination Committee meeting for approval of a number of tribal development projects and initiatives apart from mandatory formulation of Tribal Sub-Plan in all sectors. He asked the departments to ensure 100% saturation under various schemes by covering all tribal families and ensure benefit reaches to the migratory population.

He directed all the departments to formulate Tribal Sub-Plan out of their overall  budget allocation in consultation with Tribal Affairs Department and conduct regular outcome evaluations to ensure that gaps in welfare and development of tribal population are promptly redressed.  This is the first time that all departments in J&K will be formulating Tribal Sub-Plans. Departments will allocate specific funding for tribal villages under CSS, CapEx, NABARD, loan component and other special schemes.
