Historic Mughal road which connected Shopian with Rajouri district in Jammu would be opened for regular summer traffic from 27 of April.

Mughal road remains closed during the winter months as it could not be converted into an all weather road by the construction of a tunnel. Although the government has approved the tunnel project at Peer Ki Gali forest area, the implementation is very slow.

In many pockets of Mughal road there is always heavy snowfall during the winters and it remains very slippery for the vehicles and the authorities close it for the winter months.

A senior officer confirmed to GNS that the road is being thrown open for traffic on Wednesday.

The snow clearance work on Mughal Road had been completed long back, almost two weeks ago, but vehicular movement was allowed on it till date. Nomads had been pressing for the reopening of the road and also held protests in support of the demand recently.

“Kindly follow the Traffic Advisories issued by Traffic Police Authorities from time to time for smooth movement & regulation of HMVs/LMVs on this Road,” Divisional Commissioner Jammu said.
