Yarkand Sarai families have no clue how to continue education and life of their children

The families living from decades inside Yarkand Sarai of Safa Kadal have no clue of how to restart their lives as the government has told them to vacate this building within seven days.

Talking to Voice of Valley the families which would be displaced said that this is their fourth generation living in this Saria and their children are enrolled in different educational institutions around this heritage building.

They said that the displacement will severely impact the education of their children as their education is being largely run by the private institutions on scholarship as their financial condition is not good.

Yarkand Sarai which is a major milestone in Safa Kadal area of Srinagar about the trade through silk route and now the families who are living in this Sarai have got a notice from the government to vacate this building within 7 days.

These families have settled here after 1947 and their generations have lived here and they have no clue where to go if they vacate this building.

The J & K government has said that the building is unsafe and has also said that the lease of this building has expired 12 years back and they will now take over the building.
