While the authorities have started a demolition drive to clear the banks of river Sindh in Ganderbal district, one of such drives on Tuesday turned into a tragedy as a young person tried to self immolate himself and was hospitalized.

Reports from Harran said that during a demolition drive undertaken by Irrigation and Flood Control Department over the banks of Nalla Sindh at Harran area of District Ganderbal, one person identified as Amir Hamid Shah resident of Haran suddenly appeared from behind the illegal structure and self immolated on its roof in protest against demolition of illegal structure raised on the banks of Nalla  Sindh.

The said person was, however, rescued by police and locals on the spot. He received burn injuries before flames were doused and was shifted to hospital. However the local sarpanch has criticized the demolition drive and raised questions over the unjustified act of flood and irrigation department while appreciating the role of police for pacifying the situation in the village.

Police have requested people and media organizations not to upload the tragic video of the young person who was trying to self immolate at Harran.
