DC Srinagar conducts surprise inspection of Medical Shops in the City
20 shops inspected; 4 shops sealed for violations
SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 17:- In order to ensure the quality of Medicines/Drugs being sold to the patients and to regulate the prices of the drugs in City markets, the Deputy Commissioner /District Magistrate Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad on Wednesday undertook a surprise inspection of various markets in Srinagar orders for closing down various medical shops for contravention of rules like absence of qualified persons, not maintaining sale purchase records, unhygienic conditions, cold storage drugs not maintained properly, records of psychotropic drugs not maintained in violation of norms.
Accompanied by a team of the Drug Controller Department, the Deputy Commissioner carried out surprise inspection of dozens of medical shops at Soura, near SKIMS, Kak Sarai near SMHS Hospital, Karan Nagar, Nawakadal, Gratbal and other areas of the District.
During the inspection, 20 Medical shops were inspected during which 4 Medical stores were found violating laid down norms and were sealed/ stopped operation on the spot, while instructions to stop the sale of drugs at various medical shops were also passed. Besides show cause notices were also served to some medical shops for violating provisions of Drug & Cosmetics Act.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner has asked all Chemists operating in Srinagar to adhere to the laid down norms strictly. Any attempt at overcharging shall lead to initiation of criminal proceedings. He also urged the general public to lodge complaints in case they face any grievances in purchase of Medicines and selling medicine at exorbitant prices.
Deputy Drugs Controller, Kashmir, Drug Controller Headquarter, Drug Controller Srinagar and other concerned accompanied the DC during the inspection.
