Sudden search and frisking held on Thursday noon in Saraibala

Police and CRPF on Thursday suddenly announced in the Saraibala area of Lal Chowk that people should stop as they were going to conduct a search operation in the area.
Soon after the announcement the area was sealed and the police along with the paramilitary forces searched the shops and also frisked the people who were present in the area.
Being a busy business street, Saraibala at the time of searches was having a lot of people in the lane. Police and CRPF also searched the pedestrians present in the area and frisked all the locals who were present at that point of time in this business area of Srinagar.
Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that police and the CRPF conducted surprise search and frisking operation in Saraibala area of the city and its adjoining areas as part of the stepped up vigil in the Srinagar district in the wake of recent spate of killing of civilians and policemen.
“Pedestrians were frisked while shopkeepers were also asked to provide details about salesmen etc,” an official. CRPF personnel were also seen checking identity cards of pedestrians and frisking vehicles.
An official told KNO that frisking operations have been intensified in Srinagar in the wake of recent killings of civilians and policemen. “People are requested to cooperate with the police,” he said.
Pertinently, additional CRPF companies have been deployed across Srinagar to assist police.
