The government of Jammu and Kashmir is keeping a special thrust on the management of solid waste in the cities of Jammu and Kashmir and also in the townships. Both in Srinagar and Jammu cities there are many problems and the government is trying to solve them by many centrally sponsored schemes and also by the smart city projects.
Recently the Chief Secretary was reviewing the functioning of the Urban Development Department both in Jammu and Srinagar. He directed the Commissioner SMC to ensure that there was no go area in Jammu city while further adding that in a tourist destination like Srinagar city; such area segregation should be avoided.
He advised Commissioners of the two municipal corporations to ensure periodic street sweeping in the municipal limits. He advised commissioner JMC to ensure that if highways pass through the municipal areas, NHIA ought to attend to sweeping of the highways in accordance with the norms set by the Municipal Corporation.
Door to door collection of refuse has begun in small local bodies and that this process will be scaled up to cover all the 78 local bodies in Jammu and Kashmir is the information from the J&K government to the higher ups.
He directed that the process of collection of door to door refuse, garbage collection at least twice a week should begin in all 78 local bodies from 18th of this month.
