Forest department organizes capacity building program in Ganderbal district

A one day sensitization and capacity building program on ” The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006″ was organized at Town hall Ganderbal. The program was organized by Sindh Forest Division Ganderbal. Shri Arvind Kumar Jha, IFS (Retd), Former Commissioner, Tribal Research Institute, Pune Maharashtra was the resource person on the occasion. The program was well attended by DDC members, BDCs, Chairpersons of FRCs, representatives of Departments of Forest, Rural Development and Revenue etc.

Mr Jha initially gave a detailed presentation on the FRA, 2006 and it’s applicability at various levels. He explained the role of Gram sabha in chalking out the eligibility of the prospective beneficiaries and also various provisions of the Act and Rules made there under. He asked the  stakeholders for application of due care and wisdom during the verification of claims duly emphasizing the sustainability aspect of forest rights as well as that of forestry resources.

Mr Jha also discussed some case studies under FRA of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh state and emphasized on how the satellite technology was helpful in deciding the rights in favor of eligible claimants. After the presentation, a brief interactive session was held in which FRC members and representatives of various departments asked queries and questions pertaining to implementation of the Act in the district.

Among others the program was also attended by ACP Ganderbal, DFO Ganderbal, and Range Officer Sindh & Manasbal.
