Amid efforts for tourism, Ladakh see new covid cases

While the central government is trying to give a huge push to the tourism industry in the UT of Ladakh post second wave of covid, on Saturday officials in Leh have told media that they have found eight new covid positive cases and said that rest of the protocol is being followed.

This is bad news for the tourism industry in Leh as they have been waiting for the tourism to pick up because recently for some days no covid positive cases were reported in the UT of Ladakh.

Three mega tourism events are going on in the UT of Ladakh while the government and the health officials are trying to contain the spread of virus further as it will impact the tourism industry.

According to PTI while reporting about the surge in the covid positive cases in Ladakh in has said in its news report, Ladakh’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 20,530 after detection of eight new cases, while 10 Coronavirus patients were discharged bringing down the number of active cases in the union territory to 64, officials said on Saturday.

Ladakh has registered 207 Covid-related deaths so far 149 in Leh district and 58 in Kargil district since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

The official said a total of 4,471 persons were tested for COVID-19 and eight of them, four each in Leh and Kargil, returned positive.

Ten patients were discharged from Leh hospital after successful treatment, taking the tally of cured patients to 20,259, they said, adding of the active cases, 45 are in Leh and 19 in Kargil.
