Kashmir Retailers Association (KRA) on Monday has reacted sharply to the sealing of shops by the SMC officials in Srinagar city recently and has described the move by the SMC as ill timed and for the creation of chaos.

Kashmir Retailers Association (KRA) has appealed to LG Manoj Sinha that he should intervene in this matter as he is aware about the economic conditions prevailing in Kashmir valley especially in Srinagar city.

Kashmir Retailers Association (KRA) in his appeal that the retail sector is facing market slump due to Covid-19 pandemic and stormy year ahead due to the apprehension of the third wave, the government should have granted some amnesty/waiver to the shopkeepers who have been suffering since 2019 for one reason or the other.

According to the KNO quoting the statement of Kashmir Retailers Association (KRA), they have said that the shopkeepers are neither aware about the taxes nor about the hike, adding that it was the responsibility of the SMC to make the stakeholders aware.

“Moreover, the SMC should have taken the shopkeepers onboard before making any such decision,” he added.

Kitab appealed to LG Sinha to personally look into the matter.
