DC inaugurates first ever Sainik Welfare Office at Bandipora

BANDIPORA, JULY 15: In a significant move to ensure the welfare of ex-servicemen and to honour their services rendered towards the nation,  the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad along with Director Sainik Welfare, Brig Gurmeet Singh Shan today inaugurated the first ever Sainik Welfare Office in Bandipora district inside the premises DC Office complex here.

The office has been established as a part of initiative taken by the Sainik Welfare Department to reach out to ex-servicemen in far flung areas of the UT of J&K.

After inaugurating the office, the DC extended his congratulations to ex-servicemen and said that their service matters and other related activities shall be streamlined which were erstwhile handled by the Sainik Welfare Office Baramulla. He added that it will cater the welfare oriented demands of ex-servicemen from district Bandipora and its far flung areas like Gurez and Tulail.

Dr. Owais emphasized upon the office bearers to maintain close liaison with other welfare organisations, departments and voluntary agencies so as to supplement the welfare activities that are in vogue for the betterment of ex-servicemen and their families/dependents.

While expressing gratitude for DC Bandipora in particular and for the Army and civil administration in general, the Brigadier Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director, J&K Sainik Welfare Department, hailed the efforts of concerned authorities who provided every possible support towards the establishment of this office in Bandipora district.

He added that Sainik Welfare Office will provide all resettlement assistance to war widows, dependents and war disabled as well as to those who died/disabled while in service due to various reasons.

Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer Baramulla, Mudassir Choudhary briefed the DC about the functioning of Sainik Welfare Office and said that this sub office will explore avenues for providing different types of educational and vocational opportunities to the ex-servicemen and their dependents.

He also extended his gratitude to the DC for providing the much required space in the premises of DC office complex Bandipora.

Among others, SSP Bandipora  Zahid Malik, Town Commander 14 RR, officers from tri services, district and sectoral officers, ex-servicemen and their dependents/families among other concerned functionaries were present on the occasion.
