Media reports are suggesting that there would be talks and even they have gone a step further by saying that there can also be an all party meeting held on the situation of Jammu and Kashmir in which all the local parties would be invited.

All the mainstream political parties are in loop with the central government for such talks according to these media reports. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has neither confirmed nor denied any such reports appearing in the news channels and also in the reputed newspapers.

Jammu and Kashmir was placed under President’s Rule after the BJP ended its alliance with Mehbooba Mufti in June 2018. There has been no political process since the fall of Mehbooba government. In August 2019, the Centre ended the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

There was an expectation that the state elections would be held in tandem with the national elections in 2019, but the Election Commission negated it quoting the reports from the ground in Jammu and Kashmir that the time was not feasible for holding these elections.

Former chief minister and sitting MP from Srinagar who is also heading PAGD Farooq Abdullah said they are not averse to dialogue. The Alliance, formed in August last year, has been inactive for over six months over internal differences.
