Jailed people
Government of Jammu and Kashmir is going to release many jailed people because of the current wave of pandemic as the covid 19 has infected many jail inmates also. Recently in a big development Jammu and Kashmir High Court has intervened in this matter and has quoted the Supreme Court guidelines for the release of jailed people in Jammu and Kashmir.
Recently Jammu and Kashmir government has said that a high powered committee headed a high court judge has ordered the release of jail inmates except those involved in serious crimes to decongest prisons in Jammu and Kashmir. The high powered committee has also ordered discontinue of all visits of visitors from outside including NGOs inside the jails of Jammu and Kashmir. The committee has also ordered that the families of jail inmates can meet the prisoners virtually on phones.
Recently, media reports have suggested that many jail inmates have been infected with covid 19 and some of them have been hospitalized for treatment. The decision of the government to release these jail inmates has been welcomed by the common people especially by those families who have been pleading with the authorities for their release from the jails.
