While the government has decided to extend the corono curfew by another week in Jammu and Kashmir lot of families have started the feeling the brunt of the situation. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed an economic depression from the past several years as there has no any tourist season either because of clampdown post August 5, 2019 or because of the pandemic lockdowns.

Daily wagers and labour class like construction workers, shikarwals, poniwals etc. have been without any financial assistance as they are being forced by these lockdowns to stay indoors. They are feeling the heat of the situation as many of such families are reeling under dept as they could not get any financial assistance in the past several years.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha recently decided to help such families and announced that the government will provide them Rs. 1000/- per month for the two months. These thousands of families cannot survive on Rs. 1000/- per month as this is an insufficient amount even to buy dry ration for their families. The need of the hour is that government should make a comprehensive financial package for such vulnerable families so that they can at least survive while the authorities are only clamping curfew forcing such daily wagers to remain indoors.
