Recently the Jammu and Kashmir administration after a lot of feedback from the stakeholders has decided to make a new policy for the houseboats on the Dal waters.

In order to give a new shape to the concepts of sustainable and responsible tourism to protect the marine ecosystem, the government has decided to give its own touch not only for their protection but also for the protection of the environment.

The administration in a recent decision has asked the houseboat owners having the houseboat moored in Dal & Nigeen lakes to be e-registered within 30 days, as it will be good for them according to the government.

In a recent high level meeting of the Administrative Council (AC), which met under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, approved the roll-out of policy and guidelines for sustainable operation of houseboats in Dal and Nigeen lakes.

In a bid to preserve the marine ecosystem of both the lakes, the new policy aims to regulate the functioning of houseboats moored in Dal and Nigeen lakes by adopting the models of sustainable and responsible tourism from the other places so that these two lakes are saved from pollution.
