Rains, snow bring temperatures down and submerge roads

Heavy rains lashed Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley while light snowfall has been witnessed in many upper reaches. However, heavy snowfall is being witnessed in the ski resort of Gulmarg which was already enveloped in snow. Lot of tourists have been to Gulmarg including the people who are taking ski courses in this resort.

There has been a healthy footfall of tourists in the past few months and the winter games at Gulmarg also attracted a lot of players and tourists.

According to the MET department the weather will improve from Monday afternoon while reports from the upper reaches of Kashmir valley have suggested snow from light range to moderate.

 “Weather will improve from today afternoon. Weather is likely to remain dry till March 10 after which another spell of rain is likely to occur in J&K and Ladakh, said an official of the MeT department.

Srinagar had 5.4, Pahalgam 1.1 and Gulmarg minus 1.7 as the minimum temperature on the Celsius scale.

Leh town of Ladakh had minus 3.3, Kargil minus 4.2 and Drass minus 9.8 as the night’s lowest temperature.

Jammu had 16.3, Katra 14.2, Batote 8.2, Banihal 5.3 and Bhaderwah 4.9 as the minimum temperature.
