With new mutated strains of the novel Coronavirus, doctors in Jammu and Kashmir who are dealing with covid patients have appealed to people to take all the necessary precautions including wearing masks, maintaining distance and avoiding big functions.

“New variants could trigger a new wave of Covid-19 that could reignite the pandemic,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan to the media in Srinagar.

“After the UK variant, South African and Brazilian variants have found their way into India,” he said. The appeal by all the senior doctors to the people of Kashmir about the fresh wave of covid has come amid reports that a “new Indian mutant strain” has been found in Maharashtra and it is spreading very fast.

While the appeal has come from the doctors, parents have expressed concern over the opening of private tuition institutions where thousands of students go daily and all the SOP’s about the covid-19 have been thrown to winds.

“The violation of SOP’ is everywhere especially in the private coaching institutions and the authorities are taking no steps to take measures immediately so that people of Kashmir are saved from the fresh wave of Covid-19”, said Ali Muhammad Bhat of Hyderpora who pointed to the traffic jam on Hyderpora road as hundreds of students without wearing masks were coming out from several private institutes in the area.

Such violations are not confined to Hyderpora, right from Rajbagh area to Hazratbal and to Soura there are dozens of private coaching institutions who are taking classes and there is no social distance being maintained while most of the students come without wearing masks.
