Mehbooba Mufti has been on the forefront to raise issues of importance especially the political issues of Jammu and Kashmir. Recently she was not allowed to visit the family of Ather Mushtaq who was killed in an alleged fake encounter along with two other boys of South Kashmir.
Mehbooba wanted to visit the family in the backdrop of recent developments as after the protest, the father of Ather Mushtaq was slapped with FIR under UAPA along with six other villages including the local Imam.
Mehbooba urged locals not to be frightened by the belligerence of the government and asked them to raise their voices for their rights. Going further Mehbooba said that the government of India would be forced by the circumstances to give back special status to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, though there are no indications from the BJP government that they are even inclined to hold the elections for the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The fight for statehood is still not being won by those parties like JK Apni Party who have been accused by the PAGD to be the B team of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.
JK Apni Party has been appealing for the restoration of statehood and for the holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir sooner or later but the centre is not responding even to their requests.
