It was a long wait for the people of Jammu and Kashmir especially for the students and traders of Kashmir to see that they also get high-speed internet access.

After a lot of efforts by the JK administration including the report submitted to the Union Home Ministry that there would no major law and order problem by lifting the curbs on the internet, the central government gave a nod for the restoration of 4G services here.

The government however said that “objective assessment of the prevailing circumstances and necessity of continuation of these restrictions” was taken by a special committee constituted on the directions of the Supreme Court order of May 11 last year.

The same committee held a meeting recently and gave its assessment for the revocation of restriction on high-speed internet.

JK government has also taken precautionary measures and in its official order has made it clear that high-speed internet facility on pre-paid SIM cardholders would be provided “only after verification as per the norms applicable for post-paid connections.”

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah not only said 4G Mubarak but made a remark that it is better late than never, reminding the central government that the curbs on the high-speed internet were too long.
