Government in the recent parliament session has tabled a reorganization bill to merge different cadres of J&K with that of AGMUT cadre. The government said in the parliament that it was necessary to bring uniformity in the governance of all the union territory of the country.

Earlier government has brought an ordinance on January 08, 2021, the members of IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service existing in J&K cadre would now become a part of AGMUT.

By this ordinance, all the officers of the J&K cadre could be posted in any of the union territories of the country like Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Mizoram, etc.

There have been a shortage of senior officers in the J&K cadre and the government has said in the parliament that it will enhance the efficiency in administration and also provide the pool of officers in all the union territories.

While the government is passing the laws even bringing the officers in the union territory cadre, it means that the statehood would not be restored to Jammu and Kashmir soon.

Earlier the central government has assured in the parliament that Jammu and Kashmir will remain union territory for a temporary phase and its statehood would be restored as soon as possible. But it seems that the way the government is moving ahead, the statehood would not be restored so soon.
