Heavy shelling in Poonch and other sectors of Jammu, situation tense

Tension has gripped many forward villages in Mankote sector of district Poonch, on Tuesday as the shells landed in the nearby villages. It has triggered a lot of tension among the villagers and many of them have shifted their families to the nearby shelters.

According to the police Pakistan Army opened heavy fire and shelled forward posts along the LoC in several sectors of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday, drawing retaliation from Indian troops.

Latest reports said that heavy shelling was going on and the villagers were having a lot of fears as the shelling have been landing in the nearby fields and also in the compounds. Police however said that so far they have no reports of any injuries or casualties.

“At about 1445 hours, Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars along Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote sector in district Poonch”, a defense spokesman said in Jammu on  Tuesday afternoon.

He said that Indian army was giving a befitting response and has started retaliating back. According to the news agency reports Pakistan troops also resorted to shelling and firing in Qasba, Kerni and Mendhar sectors triggering brief exchanges.
