On Sunday people could feel that the chill in the entire Kashmir was at its peak. In Srinagar city the pulse for looking at the chill is the surface of Dal Lake.

On Sunday morning when a bearded Shikara Walla was trying to bring some tourists from a house boat to the Ghat of Dal Lake, he was facing the stumbling block of icy crest as he started breaking in by his oar.

The MET department in Srinagar said on Sunday the previous night temperatures plummeted to minus 8.8 degree celsius. Srinagar witnessed such a coldest night after three decades.

While the harshest period winter known as chilai kalan ends, the people of Kashmir are still facing its impact on their lives with sub zero temperatures.

There is no respite yet from the chill and cold wave while the weatherman has predicted rising temperatures during nights in the coming days. There is also prediction of rains, snow in the coming days as people are praying for better days to wriggle out of this harsh winter.
