Finally the government of Jammu and Kashmir allowed Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to visit Budgam district and he met those families who have been alleging that they have received notices from the authorities to vacate their land.

Mehbooba Mufti after visiting areas in Budgam accused the government of instilling fear among people and evicting them from their land and homes. She said the government wants to repress people to the extent they forget even their existence and do not look for the issues confronting them on the political front.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was quoted by the media, “Since they abrogated Article 370 on August 5, 2019, people have been subjected to all kinds of oppression. The government is instilling fear among people. People are being threatened, they are being evicted from their homes and their lands are being taken away. Those very lands are being taken away from the people who are with them for centuries”.

She visited different villages in the high lands of Budgam district especially in Chari Sharief areas. She was told by the people that they were being allegedly harassed by the wings of the government so that they leave the land.

Although the government has said that they are going to implement forest rights act, instead of getting legal protection, villagers in Budgam district are getting eviction notices.
