Kupwara teachers being forced to attend schools in violation of government orders

Despite media reports and pleas by the teachers to the district administration of Kupwara that the chief education office of the district was forcing them to come daily to the schools in 100% attendance, the authorities have not taken any action or remedial measure to redress their grievances.
While the schools, colleges and other educational institutions stand closed in the entire Kashmir valley due to the pandemic, the government has asked the staff in schools including teachers to come only on a daily basis with 50% of staff strength on a rotational basis.
The chief education office of Kupwara is not listening to the teachers and other staff of government schools and they are going daily as their attendances are being checked.
Most of the teachers have told the media that by such harsh measures of the CEO of Kupwara, they are becoming vulnerable to Covid-19 and have appealed Div Commissioner Kashmir and Director Education Kashmir to intervene at the earliest so that they are not put at risk in violation of the government order.
It is in place to mention that the JK government recently directed the phased opening of educational institutions and ordered all schools, colleges, higher educational institutes and Anganwadi centers to remain closed till December 31.
However, the government permitted online and distance learning and decided that 50 percent of the teaching and non-teaching staff would be permitted to be called to schools for online teaching, tele-counseling and related work in areas outside containment zones only.
“Students of 9th to 12th classes are permitted to visit their schools in areas outside the containment zones only on a voluntary basis for getting guidance from their teachers,” the government order said.
Teachers of Kupwara district have become angry as CEO Kupwara issued an order to all the zonal educational officers asking them to withhold the salaries of all these teachers and other staff who will fail to register students 3 to 5 years of age group in government schools.
