Snow closes Mughal road again, even main high under threat

Government has already decided to close Srinagar-Jammu highway for four days for its repairs and it was after a lot of efforts that alternate highway of Shopian to Rajouri was opened for one-way vehicular traffic in order to keep Kashmir connected.

Also known as Mughal road, this highway was earlier closed for days together due to the heavy snowfall at Pir Ki Gali. However, it remained open only for two days and got closed again today as various parts of Kashmir valley are witnessing snowfall again.

Authorities have closed Mughal road connecting Shopian and Poonch districts, has been closed due to fresh snowfall along the thoroughfare, officials said on Friday.

DySP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch Zabir said that the road has been closed as it was snowing near Peer Ki Gali. “The traffic has been closed on both sides as a precautionary measure. The road would be opened depending upon weather conditions”, he said.
