Anger in Mehbooba
Mehbooba has been very aggressive in her campaign not only for the restoration of article 370 but also against all the laws being implemented by the central government after converting Jammu and Kashmir into a union territory.
Mehbooba erupted in anger soon after the news came that her youth wing president Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the case in which the deputy superintendent of police and top counter-insurgent cop Devender Singh and Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Babu’s were arrested while travelling in a vehicle from Srinagar to Jammu on January 19 this year.
Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra was formally arrested after the NIA questioned him for two days at its New Delhi office soon after the youth leader filed his nomination papers for the District Development Council (DDC) elections. The NIA has not specified the charges against him.
Mehbooba described the arrest as part of the “Gujarat model of persecuting Muslims” adding that “the model is in full swing since August 2019 in J&K”. It was one of her tweets which forced many television channels to do the programmes on this charge of Mehbooba and also discussed at length the other controversial statements issued by her in the recent past including on tricolor. “I can personally vouch for Waheed’s integrity, honesty & character. It’s up to the judiciary now to dispense justice & ensure Waheed is released at the earliest,” Mehbooba tweeted. Earlier she has said that now the Kashmiris have very little faith in the courts as they feel that there are different yardsticks being applied even on right to freedom regarding Kashmir.
