Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Thursday gave details to the media about the shootout at HMT on the outskirts of Srinagar in which two soldiers were killed and militants managed to escape.
“Initial reports said that three militants were travelling in a Maruti car and two of them were carrying weapons, who fired indiscriminately at the army men leaving two of them seriously wounded. Reportedly, both injured soldiers have succumbed,” the IGP said.
He said that soon after the attack security forces started chasing the car and they have initial leads which suggest that they were from a Jaish militant outfit.
He said that they were trying to reach to some conclusion about this attack in a few hours initial reports suggest that few foreign militants were also involved in this sneak attack.
Meanwhile, an army spokesman giving their version about the incident said that militants fired indiscriminately at a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of Indian Army in the general area Aban Shah Chowk, HMT, Khushipora, Srinagar.
“Being a crowded area, troops exercised restraint to avoid any civilian casualties and collateral damage,” spokesman said in a statement.
