While some media reports have suggested that Farooq Abdullah was one of the beneficiaries under the Roshni Act, both the National Conference and Abdullah himself have rubbished these claims and have said that some vested elements have spread lies to tarnish the image of Abdullah’s.
Recently Jammu Kashmir Government has made the names of beneficiaries under Roshni Scheme public. However, the list was published on the instruction of J&K High Court which described the Roshni Act as a scam and nullified the act. In this scam most of the beneficiaries are believed to be politicians, bureaucrats and some top businessmen.
CBI has taken over this investigation into the land scam and have already registered formal cases against the Revenue Department officials and others in the Srinagar city taking the total number of cases to seven so far.
The CAG report estimated that against the targeted Rs 25,000 crore, only Rs 76 crore had been realized from the transfer of land into private ownership and this was the first indicator that the government will act after the publishing of this report.
Farooq Abdullah while describing these allegations as baseless and said that such propaganda was being carried out against all those politicians who refuse to bow before BJP and its communal ideology. He said that he along with other PAGD leaders will continue to oppose the communal policies of BJP and will expose them before the public.
“It is a tactic to pressurize us. They want to scare us but we will not give in. I have not purchased a single inch of land under Roshni Act, neither in Jammu nor in Kashmir. Those who spread lies are our enemies and they want those who fight for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to get united and take on their political rivals,” Farooq Abdullah was quoted by a local news agency saying the same on telephone.
