Will real Congress stand up?

Many senior Congress leaders congratulated Kashmiri leadership for standing up against the abrogation of article 370 and hailed their efforts to fight politically so that the central government is forced to reverse its decisions.

But the Congress high command in the Gandhi family has maintained silence over this issue in the past few weeks because of Bihar and other coming elections in many states including Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Their silence has not helped them in Bihar as they have not been able to get more than 19 seats out of 72 seats contested by them. They have been labeled as treating the minorities and Dalits as their vote banks.

This point has been proved by the growing popularity of AIMIM led Assaududin Owaisi as he could win 5 seats in Seemanchal area of Bihar one of the most backward areas of the country.

In such circumstances Congress high command has been sending confusing signals to the Jammu and Kashmir Congress in the past few weeks. Congress is the signatory of Gupkar declaration and decided to be the part of its political fight against the BJP in the coming political Hastings.

But due to double speak and confusion, J&K Congress skipped most of the meetings held by PAGD giving excuses to the media. First JK Congress Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that due to his health reasons he did not participate in the meeting and later on said that the decision would be taken by party high command. When Mehbooba Mufti gave her remarks about the tricolor Congress issued a hard hitting statement against her saying that such statements cannot be tolerated.
