Land for CRPF
Central government is very keen for the land to be given to the CRPF so that they establish their battalion headquarters in many districts of Jammu and Kashmir. These reports came in the media from New Delhi based publications sending fears among the common people that their land was not safe now after the recent amendments in the land laws.
Government of Jammu and Kashmir has clarified many times in the recent past that these amendments have been done as the old laws were anti-people and regressive. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha said that these all fears about the land grabbing were baseless and assured the people that 90% of the land in Kashmir cannot be sold to the outsiders.
Despite all the assurances by the government, common people in Kashmir and in some parts of Jammu are worried by the reports being carried in the media that the land was being identified for the security forces.
According to some media reports from New Delhi, a meeting was held in the Home Ministry and UT administration of Jammu and Kashmir was asked to identify and transfer the land to CRPF as soon as possible for the establishment of Battalion Camping Sites or BCSs in both divisions of the union territory.
UT administration officials further said that they have received indent (request for seeking of land) from CRPF and it would be handed over as soon as the process is complete.
CRPF in its request has said that the majority of the CRPF camps both in Jammu and Srinagar were in the makeshift places and they do not have the capacity to house battalion headquarters.
