Congress dilemma
Congress leaders have been giving divergent views about the abrogation of article 370 and most of them have said that they were happy that this law has been repealed. Among them is the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who said that he was against the manner in which the special status was taken but not about the law itself.
Many Congress leaders spoke in favor of people of jammu and Kashmir and said that the central government should not take the special status from the locals there.
Recently when the political alliance was formed, the people of Kashmir have expressed their silence and have decided not to show any support or opposition to this move.
But the silence is supplemented by the fact that many communist leaders and some Congress leaders including former Union Home Minister have said that it was an act of tyranny by the government of India with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The central leadership of Congress has already shown support to the new political alliance while the recent tweets of P. Chidambaram and Salman Soz have described the parliament decisions on August 5, 2019 as episodes of tyranny.
Salman Soz in his tweet said, “This episode of tyranny is over. The goal was to intimidate Kashmiri mainstream leaders. But, as all of India is discovering, Kashmir is a laboratory where the limits of authoritarianism are being tested”.
Similarly P. Chidambaram in his tweet said, “Salute the unity and courage of six mainstream Opposition parties who came together yesterday to fight the repeal of Article 370”.
