SPEED UP PROBE
Parents of the victims who were killed at the fake encounter at Shopain have not only demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits responsible for the murder of their dear ones but have also asked the authorities to complete the probe and fix the responsibility.
Police recently said that they have received the DNA samples report and it has matched with the victims, showing that the probe will now be completed without any hindrance.
Police statement has come after the army spokesman said that during their probe into the encounter they have found that the army unit responsible for the gunfight have prima facie done wrong and further action would be taken in accordance with law against them.
On September 18, an Army Court of Inquiry into the alleged encounter “prima facie” found evidence that its men violated powers under AFSPA and it has initiated a disciplinary action in the case. The Army’s court of inquiry had also revealed that the three killed in Amshipora Shopian on July 18 are from Rajouri, but it said the trio were terrorists and “their involvement with terrorism or related activities is under investigation by the police.”
The J&K Police recently confirmed that DNA test results showed that the three youths killed in the Shopian “encounter” on July 18 were Rajouri residents. Asked if the slain youths had links with militants, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said: “The police will expedite investigations and proceed as per the findings of the DNA report.”
The government should act fast and restore confidence among the common people of Jammu and Kashmir that they have zero tolerance against the human rights violations like the staged encounter at Shopian.
