Protests in Ganderbal market after authorities misbehave with a shopkeeper

Dozens of shopkeepers at Qamriya chowk in Ganderbal town closed down their shops on Thursday after one of their colleagues was thrashed allegedly by an official of the rank of Naib Tehsildar.

Protesting shopkeepers were demanding remedial measures for the future to save the shopkeepers from the assault of officials including civil and police.

The incident occurred when Shopkeepers stopped the construction work on fencing going on at Qamriya Park as they were seeking widening of road and demanding that fencing should be erected few yards away from main road.

According to the shopkeepers the road remains busy as most of Government offices and premier educational institutions including campus of Central university of Kashmir falls in the same area.

Widening of the road in the area is a long pending demand of the traders and the same was being conveyed to Naib Tehsildar who came on the spot and the assault was done by the same official on one of the protesting shopkeepers.
