COVID19: DM orders closure of Markets in Bandipora District for 72-hours

District Magistrate Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmed has ordered closure of all markets in Bandipora district for 72 hours with effect from Thursday morning. The order has been issued as a precautionary measure to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

According to the order issued on Wednesday evening, all shops/ service providers except Chemists and essential supplies shall remain closed in Municipal limits of Town Bandipora, Sumal and Hajin of District Bandipora for 72 hours with effect from 23 July 2020.

The District Magistrate said there shall be complete restrictions on movement of public transport including busses, Mini busses, Sumos and Auto-Rikshaws

Dr Owais said the sudden surge in COVID-19positive cases as well as related deaths in the district since last few days has warranted the review of functioning/opening of markets in the district especially in Municipal areas. HE said out of the reported positive cases, a considerable number actually belong to various service providers operating in markets which has increased the threat of spread of the infection tremendously.

He asked Superintendent of Police, Bandipora to ensure strict implementation of restrictions in these areas and also sought cooperation from people in this regard. “Any violation of this order shall invite punitive action under section 188 IPC and other relevant provisions of Epidemic Disease Act 1897 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005”(KNS)
