UT administration has given a nod to the new media policy which has many new clauses and has tried to accommodate media platforms in this new policy. In this direction official spokesman recently said that government has given its nod to this new media policy while giving a broader outlook about it.

UT administration approved a Media Policy-2020, saying it “aims to put in place a Standard Operating Procedure for reaching out to the people in situations of crisis like health issues and natural disasters”.

A statement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) said the policy will help create a sustained narrative on the functioning of the government in the media and promote the highest standard of journalism in the Union Territory. In order to promote impartial and genuine journalism, it is the responsibility of administration to provide required space for the journalists to operate and get the official version without hassles.

Journalists have been complaining in Kashmir that they are not getting official version for many news stories forcing them to send their right ups without porting any official.

This lack of coordination between the journalists working in Kashmir and authorities especially police has created many unpleasant situations in the past. Some of the prominent journalists in Kashmir were booked by police for carrying news stories without official version while as these journalists have maintained that despite their repeated calls to the police officers and officials to get the version, they did not get any response.
