Police file FIR in highway tragedy against contractor

Srinagar: In a major development Ramban police has filed an FIR against the private construction company currently engaged in four lane of highway in Ramban, Ramsoo sector. Police has not made any arrest so far, locals told this reporter. After protests by the locals that the construction company had violated the safety norms resulting in death of two technical persons who were working with the company and injuries to nine others.

Locals said that in order to the work in hurry, the construction company despite rains started work in a vulnerable area of highway resulting in death of two person as the excavation work triggered landslides on Sunday.

Police said that they will take action accordance with law but the locals want arrest of the contractor as they feel that he was responsible for these deaths.

Srinagar-Jammu massive highway is remaining disrupted for traffic now for weeks together and disruption in the vehicular traffic mostly result in delay of reaching of essential items to Kashmir valley. Although the road has been clear for the traffic but intermittent triggering of landslides in Ramban, Ramsoo sector especially because of greed of contractors to finish the work at the cost of human lives.
