JK administration on Wednesday through a government order extended the detention of Shah Faisal under stringent law of PSA for another three months, hours before it was set to expire.

Shah Faisal an IAS topper of 2010, a poster boy of New Delhi for the youth of Kashmir to move on his path instead of violence, is now a PSA detainee like separatists. Shah Faisal decided to come out of the system of bureaucracy and decided to join politics. He floated his own political party and said that he was keen to contest elections to bring change on the ground.

Soon after the abrogation of article 370, he was arrested when he was about to board a flight to USA to complete his research study at Harvard University. He was not only denied to travel abroad but was brought back to Kashmir and detained.

JK administration in its PSA dossier has accused Shah Faisal of being a supporter of soft separatism through his social media posts. The dossier had also mentioned his alleged provocative statements made by him after the abrogation of article 370.

The extension in his PSA for another three months is not a good omen for mainstream politics in Kashmir. Shah Faisal was trying to being a face of youth in Kashmir and stacked his neck out at a juncture when his carrier as a bureaucrat was going on well.

The continued detention of Shah Faisal will not encourage any young man in Kashmir to leave his carrier and plunge into the politics especially mainstream politics.
